Peugeot 406 HDI 2.2 all known ECU SW and HW versions

Postby hinkxx » Thu Jul 19, 2012 9:10 am

Found following list of Peugot 406 2.2 HDI ECU software and hardware versions, should be useful for searching damos and map packs.

I could find my and several other bins from the forum in the list. I would expect the list to be much much larger, but smaller is way better in this matter :) Can you find yours?

PS. I'll post my original ECU dump as soon as I get it from the dude that tuned my ride, hopefully next week.

Claim: This is not a complete list.

A interesting picture comes to view if those numbers are sorted.

Pretty nice sequence:

Code: Select all

FLASH_0038 1037353775 281010876 29F400 67D0
FLASH_0038 1037353776 281010877 29F400 8D57  - these two look fishy, checksum is different..  :?: One is not original map?

This got me thinking some more about the versions. We still do not know the time stamp of the ECU, but some things seem to say:
- there is a block of SW and HW versions out there that form complete set of combos,
- judging from the differences between SW versions (ex. 1037353777 - 1037353454 = 323) there should of been at least 323 SW modifications made to "fix" & "improve" SW - not likely, or would say that Bosch/PSA needs to hire new SW engineers  .
- even better example is difference between min and max SW numbers we have here - 15673 , I'd say each ECU get its SW number

Soooo:
- stop talking about HW version - it is Bosch HW number
- (probably) stop talking about SW version - it is Bosch SW number - or is it PSA SW number?
- SW : HW is at least n : 1
- more likely n : m, do fishys above say that?
- SW number appears to be incremented by 1,
- HW number appears to be incremented by 1,

All this is in conflict with what I've said here in the first post (maybe even on follow ups) ecu-software-versions-t223. Also that thread needs a major info update ;)

I think I've confirmed the claim in the first sentence, everything else could be bollocks ;)

Thumbs up to OdinEidolon and RPM freak in this thread ecu-info-by-hw-number-t229, that got me looking at the numbers again :geek:

one small change in the ECU software can probably change the SW number, this does not mean that that SW number is delivered to the end user.
It's like when a software builder provides 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 etc. versions on the same program but in the meantime in his computer there may be subversions he built, that's 1.2.1, 1.2.2, 1.3.1, 1.3.2, 1.3.3 etc.

Thus it may well be that between different SW numbers that are available there are hundreds of small changes!

Kudos for the very interesting research mate.

You have a good point there. I'm just in the middle of more extended research about the numbering schemes robert uses ;) Some interesting stuff already poped up..

You can search known ECUs SW and HW numbers for BOSCH ecus based on:

1. make, model, engine
2. search with HW number
3. click on SW number to see if there is any engine running with same SW number (link is available if there is more than 1 record with same SW number).
4. click on ENGINE to see which ECUs are used for running that engine

Now you can manipulate with ECUs and see which one also suits to the different car for instance...or similar ;)

Here goes link: http://www.boschecus.com

Thumbs up!

Since this list will grow, why not add ability for visitors to contribute their own info? This way you can outsource some work, for free ;)

+1, nice idea. But contributions have to be checked prior to publishing.

Agreed.

Another issue arises right away: how can we check the info?

Assuming it is actually a new addition to the database hence not found floating the net, yet. We could try to deduct the authenticity using known data and compare, etc., but otherwise I'm not sure.. actually, if the contributor would provide a picture of an ECU with numbers visible it could suffice

On another note, how can we trust the numbers we gather floating around in the first place?
