Cloning EDC15 with different hardware number?

Postby dasMuppet » Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:26 pm

Hello,

I have a Freelander 1 that I'm trying to resolve what i think is a tuning issue.
This is my first foray into programming and tuning ECUs, so rather than break the existing ECU I'd like to clone it into a test ECU.
I have acquired a donor ECU from a Rover 75 which, judging by the connectors, is ostensibly the same as the Freelander.

The existing ECU hardware number is 281 010 8T1 and the Rover is hardware number 281 001 895.

I would like to know if it is possible to clone the complete Freelander software to the Rover ECU?

Code: Select all
281 010 8T1

you miss the zero in front + this is no bosch number.
post ecu labels ...

My apologies. I'm used to ignoring preceding zeros in numbers.
These are the ECU labels.

Freelander EUC is most likely 0 281 010 811 there is a black mark above the 811 that makes it read 8T1.

From more reading I believe both of these ECUs are EDC15C4?

Okay. if you got both ecus open and check if both got same 5P08C3 and flash ... if yes should work.
I think will need sync between ecu and ews.

That's good news.
I will need to find someone to help with the ecu ews sync. My scantool doesn't have that option.

I have the ECUs open and they have the same flash and 5P08C3, and appear similar enough for me to give this a shot.

I have a couple of questions.
Is there a method to read the 5P08C3 contents with an MPPS adapter?
Should I be able to read the complete flash from the ECU in boot mode with an MPPS adapter?

I don't mind removing the IC from the donor ECU to program, but i'd rather leave the original PCB undisturbed if possible.
