Confused. Noob alert

Postby Prelude12 » Wed Jun 19, 2019 10:59 am

Hey guys, I have just bought a 93 prelude with a fresh motor out of a 95 with a 95 ecu. I bought this car to learn how to work on motors and tune. I will eventually build the motor and boost it but that is not possible with out tuning the motor, well if you don’t want it to blow up that is. So I figured I would get the ecu out of the way first. I’m new to all this and have been reading and reading but am still confused on how it works. So I have my ecu, I can’t tune it as is so I need to get it chipped correct? From what I have read a p28 chip is the best route. This is where I get confused. The chip contains the tune right? Ok how do i alter that tune and tune my self. Where does hondadata come into play? I use my laptop to tune, is there a specific cable I need to connect to the ecu? Thank you for any help! And I’m sorry for such a inexperienced question.

Sorry it won’t let me edit the post. To add to my post: The obd1 must be chipped to be able to tune it right? Does anyone recommend a different chip than the p28? When I buy the chip does it have a base tune or is it blank? Where is a reliable source to buy a base tune chip? I hear to stay away from ebay.

So it goes as follows

Chip ecu
Buy software
Buy cable
Connect to ecu
Tune from laptop
