GM ECU tuning

Postby Steve231 » Sun Oct 29, 2017 3:12 am

I am new to PCM tuning. I have a 1996 Firebird 3.8 V6 5 speed manual.

The original 1996 PCM is the first of the ODBII PCM's and wasn't really supported by any tuning software and it will barely talk to any scanners. Swapped that out for a pin for pin compatible 1997 PCM that did have some tuning support.

Currently re-wiring the PCM connectors to use a 1998 PCM which has more parameters, better knock retard, and more support in general.

I also have another project in the works using the famous GM "0411" PCM.

I am an electrical engineer, which does help understand some thing but at the same time I have a lot to learn about the math and parameters that these computer use. I stared out tuning carburetors and distributors, this is a really interesting journey so far.
