Hi

I'm looking to buy my first hardware to enable me to start chip tuning.

I currently own an Audi A4 8K 2.o TDI with EDC17, other family members own A4's and A3 with EDC16's.
Ideally I would like a tool that would cover these ECU's and more if possible. It's possible I may switch to BMW or Merc in the future.

As I'm only intending to do this for personal knowledge/fun, ideally I would like a cheaper tool i.e. does not need to be a professional tool covering all cars under the sun.
What would people suggest I buy?

I believe I previously read (a while ago somewhere) EDC17 can only be flashed by removing the ECU from the car and not via OBD is this true?

edc17 ,early models are without Tprot and you can read and write without removing from the car with galleto 2

Yes, I have seen tuners reflash EDC17 on Golf 6 2008 via OBD port and there was no need to remove ecu. Possibly if your audi is same year it also would be easy :)
