Hi, I've owned a 2008 2.8T Saab 9-3 Turbo X for about 5 years.
I've recently been sucked into the idea of DIY tuning the factory ECU after a long journey trying to resolve an EVAP Check Engine Light that I swear is isolated to the ECU at this point.
In my quest, I purchased HPTuners (thinking I could code out the fault for less than the cost of a new ECU and have a nice tuning tool to learn with) only to be somewhat disappointed with the limited capability for my chassis (You mean I can't turn up my boost with a few mouse clicks?). This is how I discovered Winols, ECM Titanium and more recently Cheaper DIY Tools like TunerPro, ELM327 Cables as well as the Saab specific software TrionicCanFlasher.
I've wanted to get my hands on a Kess V2 to pull my tune .bin unlocked (HPTuners locks it) and at least look at some numbers with Winols Demo. Now I'm leaning towards grabbing a $30 ODBLink SX USB cable and taking a look.
I have a used ECU on deck, need to get in touch with a friend who has the Tech 2 or get a pass through cable to get it programmed... But that's just the beginning.
I'm planning on getting a wideband and boost gauge, doing a lot of learning and taking a stab at mildly tuning this vehicle.
I have a very basic understanding of how engines work with regards to AFR and Timing Advance.
Frankly, with the software I don't know where to begin with regards to pulling maps out of a sea of code.
Excited none the less. Hope membership to this forum helps. Any ME9.6 guru's on here?
