Hi From Cornwall

Hi all,

I'm a Linux Systems Admin from Cornwall with a passion for tinkering with cars.
I love taking things apart - it's just the putting-back-together part that catches me out sometimes :D

At the moment I've got half an MGF on the drive under a tarp. with the powertrain in the garage - she's waiting for an engine
replacement.

I've also got a Peugeot estate that's belching black smoke - awaiting a new MAF (last MAF was killed by the winter flood waters - although I've modded my air intake to NOT act like a street cleaner in the future!) Thank fully PP2000 confirmed that it is a MAF related problem so I'm hoping to get that fixed with the replacement MAF - if not then I guess it's going to be a wiring fault.

I'm pleased to report that my (2nd hand - but original Siemens) MAF arrived and after fitting, clearing existing fault codes, taking it for a spin - the 406 is much happier, and the fault code is not longer appearing.

I think that she needs taking for a good run to clear the accumulated soot, I'm hoping that she'll settle back into normal performance.

Now I just need to do an oil change, be patient and read up on HDI 90 relevant tuning parameters and how-to's I guess.
It's going to take a while to read and understand the wisdom on the forum - but I'm definitely a RTFM type of chap.
