MPPS clone read file is full of FF

Postby tommix » Thu Dec 03, 2015 4:27 pm

Hello i'm very new to this. I read ECU EEPROM with chinese MPPS tool.
It's 1MB size, looks ok, WInOLS recognises bin as EDC16C8, ECM Titanium recognises too. Checksum of file is 7057.
ECM Titanium uses driver A988_430. So all looks good so far, but when i looked at file via HEX view only few first bytes are with data, and about 80% of file is just empty (FF bytes). I searched for other bin of the same ecu same HW/SW and they have values, mine dont.
WTF? how can applications say chekcsum ok, recognise my engine and ecu if this file is almost empty.
Is it risky to flash it back to the car?

PS in MPPS app there is read options FUll and DATA only. Even if i select FULL it says in comment "data area only". SO maybe my file contains only data area? Cause it have maps and so on.
But why it doest read full it says K-LINE can read full, but doesnt.

Thanks.

first of all clone talk is not available. a 1mb file should be fine, just remember that all ecu's use the same databanks. what i mean by that is that the data isn't always in the same place.

But clones exists and it's stupid to pretend it doesnt. People talks about WinOLS and we all know it's pirated.

Anyways thanks for replay but your info is just not informative.. i know that different SW, HW have different bytes, but i have other cars bin with the same HW and SW and it have bytes where mine doesn't. It's impossible to be exactly the same HW and SW and have different bytes. So this means my file is only partial and filled with FF or i don't know what :D That's why im asking for those who saw more then me :)
So far looks like if i flash it-i will delete big chunk of EEPROM data.

PS maybe someone knows how applications decides from which ECU bin file was dumped from? By file checksum?

I've attached other bin from other car (found on internet) it's different and a lot.

Looks like nobody knows here anything.
SO i took and did it myself.

For those who will ahve the same question:

In my case MMPS can read only DATA section of ECU. Which is great, cause we need only data, and when you write bin to ecu - it will write data only too. SO no harm to ecu SW because of FF bytes.

Yes its correct, only data its needed for tuning, but f you want something bigger to change like dpf etc...you must do it on bench !
