MPPS DataAreaOnly Read - can safely flash back to car?

Postby tommix » Fri Dec 04, 2015 9:46 pm

Hello i have big question.. my car uses EDC16C8 ECU, MPPS says it can read DATA AREA ONLY. I looked at my bin file and it have many FF (empty data) bytes, but file is 1MB as it should. But it contains only maps and so on, no other info, as i udnerstand by DATA AREA term.

SO my question is - If i edit map in this bin file - can i flash it back to the car? Cause AFAIK EEPROM will be arased and only then written but becaus ei only have DATA area - rest of flash will become erased...so i will have dead ecu? or it's all ok and i can flash and MPPS only write bytes to data area not from beggining?

PS i have downloaded other people bins from internet with the same ECu HW and SW - they have btes where in my bin only FF.

i was reading a lot lately and i found some info and i need someone to confirm it :)

MPPS only writes changes.
MPPS writes and reads only DATA area on EDC16c8

so looks like writting bin file which have only data area is not dangerous...but i still need confirmation from people who already did this, cause car costs a lot of money :D

SOLVED

For those who will ahve the same question:

In my case MMPS can read only DATA section of ECU. Which is great, cause we need only data, and when you write bin to ecu - it will write data only too. SO no harm to ecu SW because of FF bytes.

Even after Winols checksum, always let MPPS do checksum as well. At least for the genuine version

Hi guys,
I read somewhere that by flashing ECU with MPPS on EDC16 (data only) the data on eeprom could get lost (immo, config, injector codes). Is this true?
