Basic questions

Postby nodna » Mon Aug 20, 2018 10:06 pm

Hi,

I've registered some time ago, but got no time for understanding ECUs.

I have alot of basic questions and would be happy if somone could take the time to answer them (thank you in advance :)).

When downloading the Firmware from the ECU, what information can I take from it?
- Maps
- Code
- ECU specific IDs? stored in another Chip?
- Immobilizer specific IDs? stored in another Chip?
- Seed/Keys (Secrets)? stored in another Chip?

If the filename of a file is not very meaningful => Can I use the checksum of a firmware in order to map it to an engine?
My toughts: VAG has same engine in multiple vehicles with same motor code, but is there some vehicle specific information stored?
I don't want to brick my ECU/car by blindly flashing files.

Can I use the bit-identical file on different engines without locking immobilizer and/or messing up some IDs/secrets?

How do I find the correct DAMOS/A2L for the firmware/file?

What software and hardware can I use to flash and remap?
- Tried to find a up-to-date WinOLS with no success (only available for companies)
- Currently using MPPS v16 China crap :(

Thank you :)
