I just arrived in this forum and to begin, I've dumped my orig firmware.

This is from a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 90, Nov 2007.
I've dumped it with ELMconfig, a russian software designed only for Ford (Kuga, C-Max or Focus Mk2).

You can read informations with forscan but you can't change anything on the ecu.

It's ELMconfig, this works with a cheap ELM327 interface, you can download it here : http://civil.iffc.ru/ELMConfig/.

You can find tutorials on the Internet but this one (http://www.kugaexperience.com/tutorial-como-preparar-el-interface-elm327-para-utilizarlo-con-elmconfig-y-elm-ff2/) explain how to modify your Elm interface to communicate with the low speed CAN on the car, then you can configure other devices such autoradio, general electronic module and more... This allows you for example to activate auto-lock when the car start to run...


Talking about ecu tuning, this software can give you the injectors codes and you can dump and write the ecu firmware. But you'll need a Elm327 1.5 including FTDI serial converter built in (very easy to find on ebay).

I'm still studying my ecu firmware, and a little bit scared about these checksum things, but I'm progressing.

A few clone makers have carefully worded ads that make it seem like they are using genuine version v1.4a, v1.5, v1.5a, or v2.1 Elm chips. These can not use Elm Electronics ICs as we have never made those versions.

That's true, there is no ELM V1.4a or upper versions, they are in fact copies of ELM V1.4. But if you want to be sure that you'll get a V1.4 copy, you should look for a V1.5 on ebay :crazy: .

And for the FTDI serial converter, it's because the ELMconfig software communicate directly with FTDI driver (programmer choice), so it's supposed to be faster and more reliable than using a virtual COM port (important when flashing ECU firmware :shock: )

You can also buy a genuine ELM 327 V1.4 adapter, but it's very expensive, and you will have exactly the same result... :thumbdown:

Hello, I will be using the same elmconfig to read my 90ps file. How did you go about editing the map? Ecm titanium ect?,
Apparently they can go up to 125ps however we will need to find out the value to change?

Yes, I tried to open the dump with EcmTitanium and winOls, I've modified the map but I never had the courage to flash my ECU with it, partly because this is my first remap and I'm not sure about the modifications I maid, and mostly because if there is a fail in the flash process (checksum and other stuff), I heard that this could brick the ecu.

It seems that the only way to dump the ecu properly and to give you a chance to restore everything in case of failure, is to use an FGTech Galletto or similar.

Of course, if your ECU file is well modded, you will not break anything, but still...

Since my last post, I cleaned my EGR valve, pipes and intake manifold that was full of sh**, I've put a block-off plate on the EGR valve and no default :D . With that, I could feel that the engine was already more reactive.

Ok sounds good, did you reset EGR values after? ;)
I cannot see the option in forscan to read the map files, did you use a different program with your ftid elm unit?
I am using latest forscan but i see no option to read the ecu flash?

FORScan is good but you will not be able to dump ECU with, like I said, you have to use ELMconfig, look at the beginning of the topic for more informations ;).

About EGR, reset was not need.
