Hi new to mapping

Me and my old man are experienced mechanics to old man is very lol
Am looking at starting mapping stating with generic maps to get a feel for it then start fiddling with our own maps later on

What's your thoughts on this kit?

that's some nice kit, even though it'll be cracked software and cloned tools...
Software you can get for free, but a chinese clone tool and BDM frame with adaptors are about 100£-150£
throw in some other cables for diagnostics + a laptop and 400£ isnt too bad, if its a decent enough laptop that is...

If I just use the generic maps will this keep me out of trouble? Last thing I wanna do is blow a turbo or engine

You could try and find someone willing to sell you some "generic" files.
They would cost you anywhere between 50-150£
Mind you there are a lot of bad generic files out there as well.
And most tuners won't sell you any, unless you have one of their slave tools, so they can send you encrypted files, impossible for you to unscramble and learn from...

Depending on where you live, maybe go hang out with a local shop that does the same thing and ask them questions/ see what they do to tune. Sometimes, they will help.

There are plenty of people that will map for you. Even without using there tools..

Always look for one which is reputable though, and that offer support if things go tits up! :D
