did something stupid (edc16)

Postby sparco » Tue Dec 30, 2014 5:44 pm

So I think I fried my first ecu, no worries it was my own stupid mistake during some tests on my own ecu ;)

Did something wrong during my first time trying to do BDM read on my EDC16C34, and now the car wont turn over any more (duh, one of those newbie lines...)

So I'll need to source a replacement.
Gonna start off looking at the breakers and secondhand websites, but I am wondering what I need to look for.

For instance I found an ecu from a Peugeot 307 1.6HDi 90bhp from 2006, mine is a Peugeot 207 1.6HDi 90bhp from 2006.
The hardware number does differ, would this be a real issue?

I know, ideally, the numbers would need to match, but I was wondering if it would be possible or not...

someone told me it wouldn't matter if the last three digits from the bosch hw number would differ...

Well I actually found a pretty good deal...
Bsi/ecu/2 keys/pin code card an the 3 locks (door, steering wheel and fuel cap) for only 150€...
Same engine (also 90bhp) and same year as mine ;)

Also comes in handy as I lost my spare key and pin card years ago anyways :D

I hooked it up correctly at first tho and because I didnt get it connected, I unhooked everything and connected it back up, thats when I must have switched the bench feed around...

Dont understand why it wouldn't read at first tho, wont be using that setup again for BDM reads anyways ;)
OBD read passed just fine, altho I'll stick with my 1260, just because its way faster then this v54 :D

So I got the kit.
And the ECU is exactly the same as I expected, but apparently I forgot to check the BSI...
So that one is different from mine :/ (guess thats what you get when having a "full option" car...)

Decided to crack it open to have a look at the differences, and change the back casing of the one from the breakers, because it had a broken tab anyways...

Here's some pictures.

Mine is the upper one...
Their fabrication date is less then 2 months apart...

The big square boxes on the upper board on my ecu are just 2 relays.
The upper board is just a board with relays, connectors and fuses on it and no visible difference in the traces other then those 2 relays and 2 resistors so in theory I could just desolder the 2 strips of pins connecting it to the lower board and switch it, but I dont have a clear view of all of the components on the lower board and as you can see, there's at least one chip, which isnt present on the newer one...

Would you guys risk switching that one around?

I know the easiest option would be to just swap the immo chips on the ECU's, but that would kind of put the extra money I spent buying this kit to waste and I was really looking forward at having 2 keys again :/

Will hook up the new BSI tomorrow and will check which features aren't present on it, but I'm kind of expecting it to be something like auto wipers, auto lights, parking assist or power windows, as it does have remote controled locking...

scoppack wrote:I hadn't thought about that. I always just assumed it was options programmable from pp2k, but yeah, if it needs the hardware relays etc. That sucks..... wish I could offer some advice, good luck!

Well I thought the exact same thing myself...
Will plug it in and check the options that aren't there in this one...

So I hooked up the BSI and started going through PP2K...
Everything seemed fine, basicly everything I expected was present and I enabled some stuff and disabled some other stuff again.
Hooked up the ECU and changed out the steeringwheel key assembly...

Started her up with a frightened heart and after checking everything, from exterior lights, turnsignals, horn, auto lights to auto wipers I started my testdrive... everything seemed fine and even cruisecontrol still worked.
Only things that don't work at the moment are power windows and power mirrors (moving the mirror surface), but that might be due to another setting in the BSI I had my doubts about...
Also couldn't test the parking assist, as I removed those when mounting my poly bumper a few years back...

Will need to hook up PP2K again anyways to change the VIN number and the injector codes.

So all in all well chuffed, just hoping I can get the last 2 things to work :/

I wanted also to ask(in a different topic) how much headache would give a ECU replacement form another similar car. I just got your experience. Thanks and well done in the almost end :)

So it was just a case of changing something with PP2K again and now the power windows and power wing mirrors (moving the mirror pane) are functional again :D
Don't yet know if the heater element in the wing mirrors will work or not, as it's not freezing anymore.

Still wondering why the BSI's would differ so much, since everything seems to be operation perfectly :?:
Tho I don't have power folding mirrors on my car and the factory JBL sound system and amp have been changed for an aftermarket system as well as the parking assist which has been removed...
So those are the only things I am unable to test...

I think you can desoldet the eeprom from the fried ECU and solder it to the new one.
No BSI, no keys will needed.

Check what I did on my EDC15C5 http://www.ecuconnections.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=25004
