Motronic 7.8 about to flash tune, need help

Postby treeman » Sat Jan 10, 2015 4:04 pm

Hello all,

So I read the original/stock 64KB file from a 2003 911 Turbo with mpps cable and sent it to a tuner. They sent me back a tuned file and I would like to now flash it to the car. I would like to know what do I have to do with checksum in mpps in order to write the new file to the car?

Can I just flash the file as it is or do I have to do something else? How do I know the checksum is correct? I thought that if the tune was based on the original flash I would not have to worry about checksum?

I don't want to cause any problems so I would really appreciate any and all guidance.

Thank you in advance!

Hi!
Why do not you ask the tuner? ;)

I did ask and they said that I needed to do it with whatever tool I read the original file with, which in my case is mpps. Can I just checksum with mpps and flash the tune? Is there some steps I have to do?

There is often no reason to be afraid, but – be alert, be aware, and be careful.

Would have been awesome if someone would have told me not to flash a file that I was not sure about the checksum. Especially when I asked for help before doing it. Luckily I did not flash it until I found the answer to my question. Thanks

Anyway, just in case someone stumbles on this thread looking for help. DO NOT FLASH a file unless you are sure the checksum is correct. Even if you read and sent your original file to your tuner you must checksum. I was able to test the tuned file in MPPS against the stock/original file in just a few moments... The checksum had to be corrected so that would not have been good. :geek: :o
