Greetings everyone,

I am trying to learn about chiptuning/mapediting, of course i understand its wast area of knowledge so i am not asking for instant knowledge, just for some general guidelines. For instance, what would be most adequate way of entering area in terms of perquisite knowledge,
what should i learn about first,
is there a detailed explanations for what each map do,
does any/all ECU's contains same set of maps (different locations) ?

Also as i best learn by following hands on example, (after i get grip of terminology/abbreviations) so i would like to ask if there is step by step tutorial or guide that would be adequate for beginner level ?

is there a set number of maps in that are mostly changed during ecu modifications (and maybe name them) ?

why?

To make chiptuning first must learn the principle of work of the turbo engine .
In general maps are the same , but arranged in different places.

I am familiar with diesel engine control and work principles.
I assumed that they (maps) are of the same 'type', just in different places, so thank you for confirming that.
Anyone can point me to some good beginner tutorial ?

maybe its better that you tell us what you are knowing already.
then learn how a engine works, what sensors and actuators you´ll find on
a engine and understand how they are working together.

next step is to understand the basics of building the mixture, timing, combusting,
airflow, etc.

if you are firm with theese terms, we can start to learn the handling of a map-editor (like winols).
locating the maps with their axis and values would be the next.
after that you should buy a suitable flasher and diagnostic-tool for your car.

from here i will help you editing the maps safely (before i will ask you crazy things to see if you
have understood everything well).

Hi, Ill recommend to you to find on youtube the tutorials posted by vagecumap. He cover how to use winols and how to find principal maps on edc15 and edc16 and how to interpret every map , how to find the map axes and the measurement units. He also give some clues about basic remap on edc15, edc16 vag.

First of all thank you very much for taking time to answer my questions, and your willingness to eventually review maps i edit/mod.

As for your statement that i should state what i know first, i agree, its probably easier to see gaps in knowledge that i need to focus on that way.

By formal education I'm an IT specialist (so software part should go much easier, if i don't die from frustration till i hit that point =)
I understand how engine works mechanically , (and i have a nice chance to see them disassembled to piece's and reassembled, so that helps a lot). I know what sensors are ( i'll have to hit books on actuators cose i have zero clue what those are doing, or its just language barrier), and i know how sensors work, and generally how state of those are measured by ECU to determine fuel IQ, based on air available etc. , in timing that will be most adequate by crankshaft rotation % (still kinda struggling here with Before top dead center and after TDC, and time it would take to inject determined quantity). Im still a bit confused by clear ECU workflow cose of all parametars that are involved, i.e. order in which sensors are red before ECU determines injection time, duration and quantity.

I am completely electrical-engineering disabled, no seriously i have 0 clue how i passed exams related to this =) so if that part is relevant it would be harsh.

A question now that you mentioned edc 15, edc 16, what exactly are those, from what i understand ECu is electronic control unit, and EDC is Electronic Diesel control, is this same thing under different name or does ECu contain EDC or... ?
I guess 15 and 16 are versions ?
