I too am a complete beginner in the field of ECU mapping and would like to learn and understand more about this subject. I am conversant with the way the internal combustion engine works from a mechanical point of view and understand the generalities of the control by various ecu's. I have studied electronics and have electronics qualifications. I guess I'm going to have to familiarise myself with new terms though.

At the moment I'm not planning on trying to map my car or anybody eles's, it is just something that has interested me for a while but never found a source of information. I'll be using some of the information in this thread to try and understand a bit more. Hoping that I can get my head around the subject if only to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks to the OP for asking the question in the first place.

its really nice to hear that you are willing to help, it means a lot. I'm currently overwhelmed by my main job so i cant properly focus on fulltime learning of subject engine works, but i do spend most of my freetime reading on subject, thus i'll let you know when i'm ready for your questioning, ofcourse when and if you are available.

I have 0 clue what 4wd-dyno is, but maintaining handfull of employees and 15 years 6 hours winols expirience with willingness to spare time to share knowledge is something worth my respect, ergo Kudos to you =)

it is a dynamometer to put a car on it and meassure the power, torque etc.

Have you guys read up on basic ecu mapping ? It is important to understand that in factory ecu's there are many safety maps that would not allow the changes you made to work if those maps are not changed. Also you guys should learn about timing, fueling and a/r ratios for different engines configurations (turbo,N/A ) and fuel types.

okey, now i know what 4wd dyno is, looks impressive =)
still it doesnt make me wanna cry less about torque limiter to smoke map limiter relation =), not to mention hell of boost to boost limiter to boost control (n75) relations that made me wanna rethink if i know anything about engines =) ( just kidding ofcourse, still im not ready for questioning... yet =) just wanted to cry a little how this stuff is kinda hard, but in motivating way. :angel:

I'm not looking into ECU software protection models yet ( probably some checksum calc i guess from top of my head ) cose i wanna make sure i get the 'theory' part fully understood ( i have weird way of learning new things), but im sure ill have to look into those you mentioned when i hit 'hands on' mapping part. As you mentioned Injection timing, IQ and a/r ratios for different engines configurations, can you recommend some reading materials on this topic or is there some standard i should look at ?
