hi all i am new to this tuning stuff i have some clone equipment and ii am wannting to learn about tuning..im 22 years old and i know im not going to learn it over night but everyone starts somewhere....i have followed the vagecumap of youtube and i have started to try learn as much about edc15 as i can and i have a edc15 audi 110bhp to play around with....the point im getting at realy is when adjusting the maps how do you know how much to turn them up by and what maps are turned up..i.e drivers with..smoke map...torque limit map......im just trying to get my foot in the door here so please dont think im just trying to earn a few quid...thanks and any help is better then no help lol

You're absolutely right, everyone has to start somewhere, and it's a nightmare when you've nothing to work on.

One thing I'll say is, if you hit a brick wall. Keep at it. The brick wall, where you don't know what to do is a big part of tuning that no amount of experience gets totally rid of.

Logging equipment is a must, because if you really want to learn the best way to tune, it won't be by people telling you (unless you want your knowledge limited to the beliefs of others), but rather making experimental changes and checking for yourself for what works and what doesn't.

Don't be afraid to do independent testing, that also is a big part of tuning.

Thanks for the advice mate..because im going this of my own back i cant afford the top of the range equipment so i have to buy and use clones...i have a data logger coming in the post my question to the logging is what do i need to log....i know you need to check for nock and obvsly the afr and iv seen something about egts need to be logged but what else lolz...thanks for the reply

You log what you change, or what might be limiting what you're changing (some imagination required!)

It depends what you're tuning, you have to take the lead role really and think - well what do I log to know my changes are taking effect? or what do I log to see if this map does what I suspect it does?

Always think safety, if you want to prove changing a map can increases fuel quantity, more safely proved by lowering it and doing a log than increasing it and doing a log. Once you know it's relevent and does what you think it does, then tune as you wish.

I worked a year as a cleaner to save up the funds to start my equipment portfolio. I don't regret it - I do sometimes get fed up of the tuning industry but I've gained more than I've lost, so if I got fed up and sold it all tomorrow we're all good. My current stance is 'ill do something else when people stop wanting me tuning their cars'. Which appears to mean I'm going to be at it a while yet :/

i see what your saying....i think im going to play arund with the logger for a day or so just to get the feel of what it can do and thel ill start logging and making changes....im planning to just play around with the drivers wish map...smoke map....boost map and boost limits aswell as torque limits at first so i get an idea on what they can do...are they the maps that i should be playing with to see a change as i sed ive been following vagecumap of youtube but i just cant get my head round some of the things he says lol....cheers buddy
