Mini Cooper R53 Software/Hardware Help Plz

Postby boyd » Wed Feb 17, 2016 6:51 am

Hello everyone,
I have a Mini Cooper R53 that I have basically added all bolt-ons possible as seen in my signature.
I'm now looking into tuning the ECU so when there are future mods done I can tune the ECU right away.

What is the most cost efficient way to read/write my ecu?
I was looking at the Galletto but do not know exactly how to purchase a tuning kit.
I need to find out what ECU I have? Be it Siemans, Bosche or Siemans VDO? Can I find this information by looking at the ECU?
Will everything in the Galletto kit give me access to reading and writing new AFR/Timing values?
Is there other kit's than the Galletto I should use that are around the same price?

Thanks for any help,
Boyd

Hi mate,
Galletto 1260 can read and write your sw,but much faster and cheaper are MPPS.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MPPS-V13-02-Chi ... 1753935200
Your ECU is Siemens EMS2K.
I saw your HW mods, SC pulley -17% and JCW 380cc injectors. You run with this mods and original sw???,If yes, is not the best ideea, because for sure you run too rich.Your stock injectors are 320cc.
Galletto or MPPS are only read-write tool, can't made diagnosis.Galletto need around 8 minutes for read, MPPS 2,5minutes, that because MPPS read only maps area.Writing back 512kb file with MPPS is 1,5minute.
Can't see directly AFR because your car have narrow bad Lambda sensor, need an AFR Gauge tool for that, I use one from Innovate.
Loggs and diagnosis can make with INPA cable, using INPA sw, also Testo sw using INPA sw.(only loggs), but on Testo can use External Source menu to connect AFR tool from Innovate,AEM,and can save logs as csv files.
Also can use ELM Bluetooth tool and connect with ScanXL Pro sw, can save logs as csv file or Graph.

I have scan XL also, just wondering does it have the Actual Throttle Opening readout compared to Pedal Position?
Also what version are you using, is it capable of logging Air to Fuel ratios of the lambda?
I know narrowband oe sensor isnt ideal however i would like to be able to log the values over a long period of time i feel this will give me enough information to adjust injector maps,
I use elm327 500K ftdi v1.4 but was thinking of trying out torque pro to see if it can log any Leaness/ Richness.

What would you say is the safe range for air:fuel at WOT and at HOT?

You can connect obd tool and read ecu information or remove it and look at the sticker codes,
I think 2001-2005 build use siemens and 2005-2006 use Bosch. Im not sure if Bosch ecu may have full write protection like the r56?

I think if i was you, i would start by using the JCW210 Injector scale and timing values.
Then take log of air:fuel ratio, and knock sensor (but should be fine if you stay within oem values).
If you have any lean spots you can go back to the relavant rpm axis on injector scaling and tweak them back towards your ORIGINAL value (which should be higher than the JCW values as 163/170cv use small innjectors so the request is larger to equivalate)

Sorry if I ask too many questions I'm very new to tuning. And yes I'm running the 380cc. I was told it would be fine but I agree that it's not a good idea to run it like that.

So what I'm gathering is that I get:
for Read and Write: MPPS tool
AFR readings: Innovate tool.
Diagnosis/logs: INPA or TESTO (I have an obd2 reader for codes and clearing, is that all I need?)
And as Wod told me in a pm I use WinOLS and ecu titanium for Hex Table editing right?
Is that everything I will need for optimizing all my engine modifications?

Thanks a ton for the help guys,
Boyd

For the jcw210 file is that something I'll have to get done at the dealership? Or is there a file kicking around that contains all the jcw210 values?

Yeah theres lots of files knocking about, see adriancl's posts
Opening up the throttle valve is a must if you have larger injectors. It will aid the overall A:F to begin with

I think that with throttle valve opened 100% and your 17% pulley, your 380cc injectors will not run as rich as you would think thanks to the addtional air.
Dont raise the rpm limiter with 17% pulley as it is already exceeding specification and you will overspin the supercharger and pump gears.

Reset ECU parameters after remap either in the dash or via inpa, this will reset throttle calibration values and fuel trims and timing correction based on engine knock usually within 15 minutes of varied driving.

I've just purchased the MPPS, so I can write a JCW 210 file onto the ECU.
Is the AFR gauge mandatory to tune the AFR ratios? I see they are pretty expensive.
If I use a tuning program along with the MPPS cable/software I should be able to fully tune AFR/Timing right?

Sorry overlooked the logs. I'm purchasing a bluetooth ELM reader that I'll probably use with Torque.
