Fine tuning for optimal EOI

Postby BlackFlash » Mon May 04, 2020 9:08 am

Hello everyone!

What is the best way for modification of EOI?
I make changes to Rail Pressure, as i need. Then i change SOI for better EOI. Duration maps didn't touch. Is it ok or not ?
Or the best way is to change duration and Rail for stock SOI ?

I make it on BMW M57, EDC15. In many sources the best EOI for this engine are near 6-7 grad... may be not ? Why ?

How it will be looks, when changed by the best way? All EOI must be at optimum angle or increasing by fuel or rpm scales ?

Original file attached for example.
Stock EOI is on picture:

For calculations i try EOI Builder, DT-Timing, and Excel :)
Also intresting thread here.

One rule of general diesel tuning is not to modify duration unless you want to get more out of the limit of the map.
For example if the duration extends until 100mm3 and you want 120-130 you will have to extend it and calculate the injection duration based on rail pressure and current injector.

If you do not want to end up with late EOI you increas the injection time SOI ( Start Of Injection ), by this way you set you process of injection backwards, towards the piston. Be carefull of SOI not to advance it to hard in order to bend or break a rod.

Duration map shall be not touched and Soi shall be advanced, also if you have common rail, you can tweak from your rail pressure and bring you rail higher in order to shorten the duration an keep the same quantity flowing into the car.

If you have Black smoke that is usualy due to late EOI, so keep that in mind and do not go under 16 afr, you will be safe.
