bought former police car - how to find out if its "chipped"

Postby ibellic78 » Mon Jan 25, 2021 12:29 am

Hi,

i have bought a 530d which was former owned by the german police. I want to find out if it is chipped.

So i have a plan.
a) find out hw and sw number of my ecu.
b) find a original damos
c) bitcompare those to files

Do you have another plan?

How can i find out hw and sw of my ECU?

I have ISTA+, ESYS, INPA with ENET.

Post ecu label - hard to suggest not knowing what you have.

All Police cars are on a lease hire or hire purchase, it will invalidate any warrantee by chipping them.
This is the official response from the police.

I am positive that this is not true. The car i own was in possesion of the state for 55 month (not a normal duration for leasing) - and it was modified as the document for the german TÜV states. It s not listed whats exactly modifyed as it is classified (black bar). but eg the professional navi is not part of the original delivery. Further the seats are retrofit. And ofcourse they had their radiostuff installed and removed for sale (some drilled holes and a left over microphone at the mirror).
As it is faster than the technical datasheet says it should be I really would like to dig deep.
Wouldnt it be great to find the maps?

You'll find the mods are for police purpose only. GPS ANPR systems etc....
Engine for most forces are never modified as it effects the warrantees etc..
UK lease/hire until destruction and they are retired after an agreed period to a value,
then sold off or returned to lease company who then sells them off.
European forces tend to follow this also, Germany for example.

You need a tool for readout the ecu file, and a editor likes WinOLS, the original File, and have to compare the readout file with the original. To see if changes done.

You dont need, Damos
