Issue with smart fortwo 452 petrol

Postby serbar » Tue Apr 19, 2022 10:27 am

Hi guys.

I should say that i made a torough research, before deciding to write this thread, in order to sort it out myself.

These is my issue at the moment:

I have a smart fortwo 452, 698 cc with 82 hp of power.

It has a transmission from another smart with a lower power output.

The cars symptom is that around 85-90 km/h cuts and cant rev up more, BUT only in 6th gear.

If it hits that speed in all the other gears the car doesnt cut and
revs up normally.

The car ecu is a 0 261 205 006 / 001 0020 V001

As an important note, ive also got the ecu from the car where the transmission came from with exactly the same numbers ive written above.

I ask you guys if there is any chance to eliminate this behaviour just with software reprogramming. And if yes what can i do, or if anyone
of you can do it.

Ofcourse im willing to pay for the advice or for you work but i would rather do it myself with the advice/instructions you provide me.

I got the information that the flash file is multimap and each bank is activated by a scn code in the eeprom, my questions is:

Is there a chance (even if its time/labour consuming) of copying the engine managment related maps from the 82hp bank in the dump and paste them in the lower power output bank? then with the scn coding in the eeprom select that lower output version to drive the car?

Thanks.

SO I gather you think it's possibly due to unexpected gear ratio in 6th gear (actually 3rd gear times 2nd final drive), but I believe then it should also see that difference in 3rd gear (3rd gear times 1st final drive). So are you sure you've ruled out everything else (e.g., limp from overboost, etc.)?

If so, and the other ecu is from same basic engine with lower boost, try backing up your 512K ecu map with kwp2000, copying the map from the donor's ecu, and flashing that to your ecu. Any difference? If that's good, then at least you'll know that doing what you ask might actually fix it. As for exactly where that trans data is stored, no idea just yet...

Perhaps OldSkull's gearbox def files might help.
