I'm in the process of doing an EGR delete and remap for an alfa 159 2.4 Jtd with Bosch EDC16C39 ECU.
I have purchased a kess device to read the ROM, and I'm waiting for that to turn up.
After that is read what is necessary to do an EGR delete (it's done on the engine) and a remap?
I'm not sure if I want stage 1 or 2, depending if stage 2 requires DPF delete, as I'm not doing that.
Is it easy enough to do myself or would someone like to do it as a service?
I do have an electronic engineering background, but if it's cheap enough happy to pay someone to to the file mods for me.

Post ur file here ill help u with egr,tuning etc..

If you don't want to touch DPF then go with stage1. 2.4 JTDm heads suffer with stock DPF, be carefull with bad DPF remaps.

About EGR there are a thousand methods, some basic, other pro. You can do basic with EGR maps. Pro EGR-off need to change others things.

First read about how to get a good full backup to restore it in case issue.

Thanks for the advice.
I suspected stage 2 needed a dpf delete. So I'll stick with a stage 1. I'm not really that bothered just doing it wile I'm there for the EGR.
My racing days are over, it's just a cruiser anyway.
So what I've gathered for Reading is:
Use MPPS and OBD connection (MPPS on order)
attach power supply to battery to keep the voltage up, as it takes quite a while for a read. I have a PS so all good there.
Turn off all lights
turn on and select car (hope Alfa 159 is supported?)
connect and check ECU ID.
Start Read of flash and leave it sit until done. ( turn off sleep mode on PC)
Go get a coffee...
Save file as binary.

How do I check the file is valid?
Is there a checksum/Hash somewhere in the file? What Checksum/Hash type does it use?
Or should I read again to make sure I get the same result?

Once I have the file , what section should I post to get someone to mod it?
Any ideas on cost for this? I'm in Australia so the Australian peso doesn't go far :)

Mpps will not work on edc16c39 at alfa 159.
Use Kess or something like that. Read time more +/-40mins so you need to have good stabilized battery charger. Read time is faster - i remember is something like 6min+/-

end if you get dpf off file you need to reset dpf in fes/mes - "Particel filter replacment", after that you can write ecu with new file.



I'm not a pro but this solution ive got by some good tuner and it works.

Thanks for the tip on the DPF, but I won't do that (sung to meatloaf)
I read on Alfa forum guy used MPPS and tuner pro to read his, that's why I ordered that one.

MPPS v16+ works ok with 159 EDC16C39, even v12-v13 can do C39 as C9. But it does not full backup, if any issue are there when writing then you will need PRO help. For full backup you need BDM.

If read was ok (2 MB file) usually you don't need to repeat it. You can download some OBD read here for you ecu and compare too.

Ahh great info there. I'm still a little confused though. :crazy:
So the MPPS OBD can read the file fine, so what is it not backing up if you have the ROM file?
I understand BDM may be needed if write fails, because it won't be able to boot.
But if you have the ROM file then you should be able to use BDM to put the original back on? :think:
I don't particularly want to use BDM, because lazy, and another bit of gear I probably won't use again, and my drawer is getting full.
So if all goes well then I don't need the bdm, and if not I can still get out of trouble by buying one??

FYI what is the debug format? JTAG SWD or JTAG or some other format? I have a number of different JTAG devices at work.

Basically OBD read is not same as BDM, even if sometimes you can tune OBD for BDM write it needs tricks. BDM or OBD is your election, usually MPPS is realible on your car, all should be fine for any writes. It's Bosch JTAG.

Ok I finally got my MPPS and I pulled the ECU out and read it with the adapter cables.
The files is attached. Little help please.
I am looking for EGR delete and remap to stage 1.
Engine -
swirl flap delete,
EGR plate,
DPF present and like to keep it that way.

also , what is expected HP/KW ?
