1.9 TDI PD 105HP BJB - F'd turbo

Postby rlmnt » Thu Jun 30, 2022 7:07 pm

Hi guys, I've recently made a remap for a friend's car, a Seat Altea 1.9 tdi and got into some problems with it.
I've set the boost pressure at 2300mbar at 60mg/cyc, with a limiter f.atm pressure to 2400 max, and svbl 2450. I haven't touched the N75 map and the axis ends at 45 mg/cyc. The turbo is a GT1646V (from what i've heard) and should be capable to 1.3 bar of boost.

The car went ok on data logging but after dumping the clutch in first gear with full throttle (don't ask me why he did that), the turbo overboosted to around 2560mbar or so and started whistling. It still made boost for around 5 mins and after that it simply died. I want to ask for your opinions about this situation, whether it was my fault for not touching the n75 or the turbo was already exhausted (my friend told me that it was whistling before the remap (after 3000rpm), but not that loud).

Also, I was thinking to lower the boost a bit to around 2200-2250 absolute, after he'll change the turbo. Sadly, I haven't made a log before remapping. I've also attached the ori and mod file, ffa.

for stage1 you dont need more boost then 2110mbar on max torque rpm and 2050mbar on max hp rpm , 2.11bar enough to smokelessly burn 60mg which is enough for 320nm

I will set it to 2180 mbars so i'll have 17.0 afr. 1700-1900 rpm will have 16.1-16.7 afr, but that's ok i guess. Do you think 2300 was too much for this turbo? should i touch N75 map or the turbo failed because of stuck geometry/vacuum leak?

Thank you for your information, i've seen one of your threads regarding e remap for a similar engine and the boost increase was much milder than mine. I've seen on many posts that this turbo was capable of 2.3@2000rpm, even though I couldn't find a compressor map on the internet. I was afraid of high EGT caused by 17- AFR but raising boost to obtain higher afr is a compromise.

As I said, I will set 2.18@2000, leave SVBL stock at 2.35, lower TL in 1500-1900 zone where the AFR is below 16.5, log the car and come back with updates.

I've finally followed your advice and set the boost to 2.1bar@60mg/cyc. The new turbo is from an used car and decided to lower the IQ to 56.2mg max so the boost can be lowered. So I'll get 300Nm and 130hp.

Max boost at 56.2mg would be 2085mbar, 17.3AFR, 35 more above stock, should be ok. I'll leave the modified map here. If someone wants 320Nm, raise the TL up to 365. :) charts included in archive

Update: wrote the new flash 130hp and i ve got the same boost spikes around 2000 rpm. It got up to 2570mbar and back to requested 2100 in 3-5 seconds.

Then i wrote the stock file and same results. Maybe vacuum leak? No errors recorded whatsoever.

The mechanic has cleaned the vnt and checked the full movement of the actuator. Also, this is another turbo. The first one had the same symptoms.

Check if it uses valves box or independent n75, sometimes with box type it has slow vnt response. If it's old n75 type, try to check vacuum hoses or change n75.
Torque at low revs must be progressive, big fuel spike will cause overboost.
