What equipment needed

Postby Johnrh18 » Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:58 pm

I could do with some advice as to basic stuff needed. I have a 2008 Range Rover sport l320 2.7 tdv6 which I'm about to have the egr's programed out (at a considerable cost). What I want is some way to back up the ecu and be able to re upload it as a safeguard just in case the file gets overwritten by JLR SDD software or the indy who does most work on it. What is the least equipment I could use for this purpose. I'm not interested in doing other cars so if its vin locked equipment I don't mind as long as the price is reasonable. Advise on what to buy please.

The equipment would far out way the cost. Unless you are staring a
business I'd go to your local tuner as he has already invested £1000's
in equipment. Especially for an old knackered 15 year old car.

Well the car is far from knackered only done 35k on a new engine and even less on gearbox and torque con. I get your point about costs though.

Yes as far as I am aware it is Siemens SID204. I have seen the Kess hardware for sale quite cheap but there seem to be a couple of types and I assume clones of the original. Would one of these fit my purpose and would it require any other hardware software etc. Also master or slave are two types I've seen at similar price whats the difference?

Only original tools are safe, with clones you take you chances, there are literally 1000's of cases of
broken ECU's due to fake tools, if you really don't care about your car then ok, but it's Russian roulette imho
