Rail pressure

Postby kompot » Fri Jul 05, 2013 3:27 pm

Hi.
Can anyone list advantages and disadvantages of requesting higher rail pressure in a CR system e.g. EDC16C8?
Would we get a better fuel atomisation with this? If so I would expect lower emissions and maybe smoother engine work. Any thoughts? Thanks.

For basic tuning is not usually worth to raise commonrail pressure. If injectors are okay, they give good pattern with standard pressure. If injectors are very small and tuning needs big amount fuel you can raise a bit rail pressure to keep duration shorter.

Raising rail pressure has some benefits as you will get quicker rate of Injection and this is how most (Tuning boxes) add HP and one way the OEM's meet emissions. We will continue to see higher and higher pressures in the future. However I agree that for general mild tune I would not raise pressure beyond what system already uses for maximum I would only tweak map slightly to gain more torque rise.
