required tuning tool for a 2007/03 E92 BMW (and for E60/E90)

Postby flo_sb » Tue May 13, 2014 9:40 pm

Hey guys.
I am looking for a tool which can read/write my ECU files via my OBD port - car is a 2007/03 231HP 500NM E92 M57N2

I have searched allot (also asked some ebay sellers) but still did not manage to find a definitive answer on what tool I need.
I guess I need a Kess v2 or a Galleto 52-54 but I still do not know.
Since I am just starting in this I cannot afford buying anything more than a clone of the above.

As I said I am looking to read/write via OBD, but for my peace of mind, in case I screw up, I would like to have the posiblity to restore the backup done via OBD by means of writing via BDM, if I understood correct.

So, what tool would best fit me? Looking for DPF/EGR off / chiptuning - do not need odometer adjustments.

Thanks allot for your advice!

P.S. One seller told me Kess v2 master clone would work if I have EDC16, but if I have EDC17 I would need some special wiring. I will find out what EDC I have tommorow - or maybe you guys could tell me?

Hi,

just did it with an Galletto 2 on BMW 335d...the software is not exactly brilliant, but finally it worked.

Your car should have an EDC16 ecu.

Best Regards
Martin

Hello Martin, thank you for replying.

I have went with the car to diagnose today in attempt to find out if I have EDC16 or EDC17.
Problem is I could not find out from the software what EDC I have.
Does the attached image help in determining this? I searched after the part number on the internet but could not find it.

Also one more thing regarding this picture - What does kilometre reading/mileage during calibration mean? My car currently has 178k, not 109k. Thank you! :)
