rlees85 406 2.2 HDi Coupe Re-Map Project

Right enough with the messing around... I'm going to have a proper crack at this now. This project will be on-going (I guess for a long time due to limited free time) but I hope to learn a lot in the process and maybe even help others learn (though doubtful! :?)

I have other threads floating around (such as rail pressure increase, etc) please disregard all of these... I was just playing around in those threads to get a feel for things.

Aim

To create a re-map from scratch, based on my original ECU file. The map will be aimed towards a decent increase in performance and MPG whilst maintaining engine reliability.

Base

The completely standard map that was read from my car can be found here: http://www.ecuedit.com/peugeot-406-2-2-hdi-coupe-fully-muxed-2002-t85

The base for this project is the following file that is based on the standard map (above) but with the following changes:
  • FAP Switches turned off
  • FAP SOI and FAP Injection Duration maps blanked out
  • EGR Switch Turned Off
  • One of the Inlet Airdoser Switches Turned Off
  • Diagnostic Rail Limiter set to 1500

This file works fine. No engine light or problems with driving. The file can be found here:

406 22HDI D9 Muxed - Emissions Control Removal - Project Base.zip

Map Pack

All bins in this topic are derived from the same project. Please use this map-pack as it is compatible with all the bins I create on this project. If I need to update the map pack, the updates will be added to the back of the thread.

WinOLS (Peugeot 406 (Original) - 364307) - Map Pack 04092012.zip

Note: Updates/BINs to this project will be added to the back of the thread.
As edits are disabled after 15 minutes updated BINs and changes will not be uploaded in the first post but instead added to the end of the topic.

Version 1.0

Postby rlees85 » Tue Sep 04, 2012 11:42 pm

Update
Version: 1.0

Latest BIN

WinOLS (Peugeot 406 (Axis Extension) - 364307) - VERSION 1.0.zip

To help understand what changes have been made, I would recommend importing the base file (in post 1) into WinOLS, then loading the map pack above and then finally importing the latest bin as an iteration to the base file rather than a stand-alone project.

Changes from previous version

Code: Select all
Version 1.0:
 - Extend the Axis of Injection Duration 1 and Injection Duration 2

I figured the best thing to do is to first prepare the axis. I guess my target IQ will be between 80-85 which seems reasonable. I do not wish to use a rail pressure of greater than 1400 BAR at the moment but maybe in the future...

I will work through all the maps first to extend their axis as required.

First I attempt the Injection Duration (1 & 2). I extended these axis by using a 'very educated guess'. Values were calculated using polynomial curve fitting mixed with an intelligent guess based on nearby figures.

If these extensions I have performed look good I would be more than happy to write a separate topic on exactly how and what software I used to arrive at my values. On the other hand, if my extensions look awful, please let me know....!!

Version 2.0

Postby rlees85 » Wed Sep 19, 2012 8:45 pm

This is my first 'proper' attempt at a tune. Please let me know your comments. I have also included documentation in the ZIP file to help people understand what I did and why.

I would like comments on the quality of the map so far and if or not it is safe for me to run on my car and log with pp2000 (obviously I do not want to upload an unsafe map to my car and run it)

Tune Parameters:
IQ : 81
Rail Pressure : 1400
SOI : Standard
Boost : Standard
Calibration Maps (Inj. Duration, N75, Rail Pressure Precontrol, etc) : Standard

UNTESTED ON CAR! I do not recommend anyone try to run this tune.
XX02 XXX - IQ 81 RP 1400 STDSOI STDBOOST + Documentation.zip

Included Documentation
Torque Limiter Power Curves.xlsx - Before and after torque limiter. This then creates two graphs one for estimated torque output and estimated power output. I used this to try and create smooth curves... Although you will notice the power calculation is not 100% accurate and is a guide only!! The 'Torque Factor' is a constant to estimate torque in lb/ft for a given IQ. The HDi produces 235 lb/ft @ 2000 RPM @ IQ 74.30, so to get the constant I just reverse the equation to:
Code: Select all
Constant = Torque / IQ
Constant = 235 / 74.30
Constant = 3.162853297442799

Smoke Limiter AFR Calc.xlsx - Help to generate safe smoke map values. For air flow less than 1000mg I generally left standard. For air flow 1000mg+ I aimed for the following AFR (and any values LOWER than this are highlighted in red):
Code: Select all
2250 RPM & Less = 17.5 AFR
2500 - 3000 RPM = 18 AFR
3500 RPM = 18.5 AFR
4000 RPM & More = 19 AFR

This document really is just a helper though. Some common sense applied too.

IQ Limits.xlsx - Shows the IQ limits on a graph. To see what limits what. The only notable observations are:
If airflow is 1200mg, TL is in control.
If airflow drops to below 1200mg, Smoke map is in control.

To Do Next!
- Raise Boost to 1.3 BAR when IQ is over 75 (or so) to make sure airflow of 1200mg is maintained. Need to get my head around those Garrett graphs that are floating around.
- SOI (I really have NO idea how to adjust this map. There is nothing on the internet and curve fitting doesn't seem appropriate)

Changelog
Code: Select all
- Deleted everything from Version 1. No need to change calibration maps at this point.
- Raised IQ to 81 (max) by raising torque, smoke, fuel temp and drivers wish limiters.
- Raised RP to 1400 (max) by copying my test from before found here: http://www.ecuedit.com/post1936?hilit=rail%20pressure
- Pilot Injection tweaked - I cannot answer the question as to way I did this except I seen someone who knows what they are doing do it. Sadly he would not tell me why (his secret I guess!) But I applied a smaller tweak. Comments about this welcome

Version 3.0

Postby rlees85 » Tue Sep 25, 2012 7:52 pm

Tune Parameters:
IQ : 85
Rail Pressure : 1400
SOI : Axis Extended
Boost : ~2380 mBar
Calibration Maps (Inj. Duration, N75, Rail Pressure Precontrol, etc) : Standard

Still untested on car.... !!

Bin, kp, docs
WinOLS (Peugeot 406 (Remap Version 1- ~ IQ 85) - 364307).zip

Included is an XLS that I created to help me with IQ, smoke, turbo calculations. The VE values in the VE table are complete guesses and the look up by air temperature I am not using so ignore this bit. The XLS just shows how I arrived at my values. Macros need to be enabled for this, it is 100% safe as every bit of code in the spreadsheet is my own.

The main question I have to anyone who is interested in looking at this map is: Is it safe to run on my car?

Changlog
Code: Select all
New in Version 3:
 - IQ is now 85
 - Fuel Temp, Drivers Wish, etc re-updated to reflect change.
 - Re-done smoke map from scratch
 - Attempted a safe increase of boost to a max of 2400 mbar. (Includes editing boost maps, boost limiters, SVBL)
 - SOI/RP/RPL/Pilot Inj. Axis all extended to IQ-80

huh I do not know where to start
I am in hurry so sorry for quick answer or badly choice of words:

Read about SOI and efficiency a little bit,
your increase is just not enough.

Boost limiter - air temp...when it will get hot weather your car will be limited...
Boost limiter ...ATM - do it better - when the weather will be different your car wond act the same...
Turbo maps can be done better, but your maximum pressure is OK 1.4 bar boost...
IQ limiters fuel temp...are OK compared to TL
MAF you do not need 1300...you wont be able to get that flow...lambda is very high, you have to decide where you will ride:
resources/all-all-all-all-all-all/thumb/117
Drivers wish - no good...
Rail pressure - do not copy values from XLS do it directly in WinOLS or copy only modified values.

...that was quick look but i think you have enough work to do ;)

answer: it is safe to try not to drive,
you have a lot of work to be finished...you consumption will be higher...look at drivers wish.

I think it is time you start also testing some things, of course ask before.

have you uploaded your last file to your car?

I'm trying to learn about remap, and I am looking to your project and I'm trying to undestand what you have modified and why :)
I have too a 406 coupe 2.2 hdi but mine has another HW and SW. For now I have discovered most of the maps and i am looking into your changes to understand what you have done.
