A question about SW version...

Leraned that HW and SW need to be the same before flasing a file.

But sometimes I also get SW upgrade version when read ID or file.

Hw important is that? If I have same Car/brand/model with same HS SW, but another SW udrade version, is it sitll safe to flash it?

For exampple on VAG;

Had allready same cars but because not sure if I can use it again I buy each time a new file.

I would like to know that too. Please somebody answer
