VAG 1.8T Erratic Dyno graphs

Postby v3trox » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:41 pm

Not sure if this is the right place to post but here we go. Been doing a lot of reading and research on 1.8t motors and I've noticed that a lot of the dyno graphs are really...erratic?

They never seem to have a smooth curve and are always really bumpy. I was wondering if this is down to the way these engines work or if they are just mapped badly?

This is from an octavia with a "stage 1" map and i've seen a few others with similar graphs.

Different dyno's use "smoothing" software, and the large rollers on Dynojets tend to smooth over small differences when dynos that use smaller, lighter rollers will show more detail. It could also be the tune, and ignition timing corrections. The way they pick up the ignition signal, and also wheel spin. This graph definitely has something wrong with it, I don't believe it's the engine output. I;ve dyno's 100's of 1.8T's and don't see graphs like that, and have a dyno that does not smooth stuff over.
