would a 2006 BEW map be good? And if so can i just use vag-k and k line cable to retrieve it or do I need to remove the ecu and put it in boot mode. if so will my bench cable i made for the golf 4 work with this ecu

You need mpps or galleto to read ecu through obd, also you can read that ecu on bench using galeto or bdm100.

via OBD with KESS or MPPS and GALLETTO works fine.
