What exactly is BOOT MODE ?

Postby csaba.hegedus » Mon Jul 18, 2016 9:33 am

Hello everyone! :)

I'm new to chiptuning, but I'm dedicated to learn as much as possible.
I have been successfully found everything I wanted to know so far, but now I'm stuck, because I simply cannot figure out what boot mode exactly is.
I have been to several sites which were trying to explain what boot mode is, but all of them were incomplete and only made me even more confused. I tried to search for az explanation here, but cannot find one also.
So my question is: could you tell me (or link a site/pdf) what boot mode is and (more important) what it is for? How do I get in boot mode (I guess it varies between differenct ECUs). Do I always have to use boot mode to read/write ECU, can't I just do it with an MPPS cable and a laptop via the car's OBD2 port?
Thank you for the help :)

Hi!
Read about the microprocessor boot mode in the datasheet, example for ST10 http://www.st.com/content/ccc/resource/ ... 115722.pdf
