What's the best tool to remap EDC16 (BMW535d)??

Postby santomotion » Sun Mar 16, 2014 1:26 am

Hello everyone!

I'm looking to remap my 535d. I've got some experience reading and writing street ECUs and mapping motor sport ECUs, but they are meant to do that, not as the normal ECUs, so I'm a bit lost on what tools would be best for this.

One of the options I'm looking at is FGTECH GALLETO V52. It comes within a kit that includes WINOLS 2.1 (demo version only)
I've read that although WINLOS is not very user friendly, is one of the best sw to modify maps.
Will demo version allow me to do everything?
I'm looking to defap, decat and remove EGR as well, will WINOLS be enough to do that?

Thanks a lot in advanced, as I said I'm a bit lost at the moment but I hope you guys can give me some advice.

Cheers!!!

The best and safest way to read and write this ECUs is BDM.
FGTECH GALLETO V52 can read and write this car via OBD and BDM.

Yes - WINLOS is not very user friendly, but is the best sw to modify maps if you know how to use it. Demo version will allow you only to look at the maps and not to make any changes.

Thanks for the quick response!

If I use BDM to read/write will I always need to remove the ECU from the car?
What's the problem with reading/writing by OBD? Could the gateway or BCM block the reading/writing or anything similar?

I'm finding very afordables BDM readers/writers. Is the full version of WINLOS afordable at all?

Could I get started with a basic BDM reader/writer and a full WINLOS licence?

Thanks again!

- Yes

- Yes, you can block the ECU, erase the flash, VIN or the CAS.

- 1000+ Euros for basic licence and you must have tuning company

Is there any other similar tool to WINLOS, even if it's not as powerful, that allows the purchase for personal use only?
