Mileage correction

Postby Dnb » Tue Oct 01, 2019 10:57 am

Hello, I'm new to this so any information will be helpful.
I'm looking in to mileage correction and so far based on what I gathered on internet I found out that modern cars keep the mileage stored in multiple places, not just the odometer. Also I found that often people disassemble the panel to get to EEPROM chip, to remove it and then re-code it, then solder it back.
Is there a way to reach and alter the mileage in all those locations where its stored without removing the EEPROM, just by connecting to the car via PC?
As mentioned I'm new to this so any piece of information will be helpful.
Also, before I get eaten alive mileage correction is not illegal here in UK as long as the buyer is aware that It has been altered.

These days we mostly use OBD to change mileage, tho avoid doing Ford that way as it locks the immo and the car won't start.
If you are using correction to replace clocks then just swap dumps from the clocks, makes an easier job

Thank you both for your reply! Everything is starting to make more sense now.
I seem to be picking up more information on how it all works. I've came across tools like smok, avdi and x-tool.
Do tools like these access mileage in both, dash and ecu or is it just dash they can change?

Depends on the car make, I use FVDI for most of my mileage changes,
it changes all the necessary mileages via OBD in one simple tool.

That's exactly what I'm after, just a simple tool to use until I learn more. I've came across FVDI also however still researching on what to get first, there is a wide choice. :) I would use it for a wide range of cars between 2004-2018 mainly European and Japanese . Also I am aware that there is no such tool which would work on all cars.
