Seems there is a few good reasons why it could be. I guess I do not need to consider the 306 timing map whilst changing my 206 one. hmmmm ok so there will be a BIN coming to "rate my tune" soon... :)

I think more than likely its emissions related. The 306 would have been Euro 1 standard and I expect the 206 would have been Euro 2, or L3 and L4 in Peugeot speak.
I think the main difference between the standards would have been NOx emissions, hence the retarded SOI in the later file.

I've got my first tune about sorted but this SOI thing is really doing my head in. Because it is so advanced in some parts on the 206 map I dont dare advance it any further! I might leave this map standard for this tune. The MPG is actually very good anyway (unlike the 306, though that had done 200,000 miles and sounded like a Massey Ferguson, but still performed well after a map)... :crazy:

From what I have been reading on other forums, even the really experienced tuners are not 100% clear about SOI. Can only really play with it and then test it on a dyno or something. As long as values are not stupid
