2 tunes in 1 ECU

Postby UweLen69 » Tue Jul 09, 2013 2:01 am

Have a question. I found a tuner that is offering the option to have 2 tunes in 1 ECU . He is posting that a small HW modification needs to be done to the ECU and than you will be able to switch between a "mild" and a "wild" tune. I don't know if this is the correct forum for this question so please move post if needed. Any advice or ideas in regards to my questions are greatly appreciated

Uwe

Yes it can be done, with double size eprom and some modification you can have an switch plug to control map you like to use. ;)

Or piggyback 2 chips and use the CE to swap between the chips. Only with engine off.

Good evening,

colleagues are right, but has some limitations. It is only possible on relatively old ECU`s up to edc15/me7 of bosch or similar from other manufacturers. At Bosch EDC16/ME9 and later you can`t do the trick. On newer ECU is physically difficult to install memory in a dual capacity.

Best regards,
userxoff.

some cars have more banks in eprom for let's say automatic/manual gearbox, or like vag cars with 3 banks for manual/auto/4x4 so can be possible to write different maps in different banks. On vag i know it's possible to activate which bank to use with vag-com interface. There are also bigger tuning companies which offer bluetooth module that plugs in obd port and an iphone app for the driver to switch between maps...so anything is possible. Just my 2 cents.

hi,

on edc15 maps theres codebank2 and codebank5,
generally codebank 5 i believe is selected on auto cars,

you could right two maps and simply used vcds to select which bank too use.

interesting to know how guys are doing it with a toggle switch
