Citroen 1.6 HDI

Postby UVG » Tue Jul 30, 2013 11:52 pm

Hi All

I recently bought a Citroen C5 with the 1.6HDI engine that was developed with Ford and Peugeot I've found that it hesitates at around 2000rpm. I've read somewhere (might even have been on here I've read so much) that Citroen produced a remap for the ECU but didn't exactly publicise it. does anyone know anything more on the subject? How can I find out if mine has been done and more to the point if it hasn't how do I do it? I'm still new to ECUs and "Drive by wire" my last car was seventeen years old and ran on steam

any help/suggestions greatly received

Have a look at MAF sensor first if it's oily from too much crankcase vapours. I had same prob on mazda 3 1.6 [same psa engine]. Cleaned it with electric contacts cleaner aerosol from halfrauds and made quite a difference [but used it as argument when bought it to have all filters+oil changed  ]. Also, map-related: manufacturers update the sensor linearization maps so might be worthy to check later software revisions for your engine.

SimonTemplar (or should I just call you The Saint)

thanks for the info I had wondered if that might be the problem probably worth cleaning anyway just to be on the same side

as I mentioned my last car ran on coal and water so not really sure what a sensor linearization is or are any idea how I would check the software revisions for my engine?

Cheers UVG

If you decide to clean the maf make sure you don't touch the metallic hot film bit cause it will produce irreversible damage. Spray it from 2inches away and let it drip for few minutes then repeat 3 to 4 times till clean [won't be perfectly clean bu should make a difference].
Regarding software revisions, look for the last 6 digits from your original file software number [which should be written on ecu as well] and look for newer revision for in the original files section.
