Disabling EGR EDC16U31

Postby taktijs » Wed Aug 01, 2012 2:10 pm

My question is about the EGR table in this file: audi-a4-1-9-tdi-bke-edc16u31-t188

It is located at adress 1C3CEE in the file. The graph and the table data are in this post.

Now I have two questions regarding this EGR table:
1. why has it an RPM range that only goes upto 3500 RPM?
2. normally in VAG EGR tables I see only values upto 850mg. In this table the last column has values above this 850, what does this mean? For tuning purposes it's best to close the ERG valve, should I then change all values in the table to 850, or 1020?

1. Because at higher RPM you need only clean air to make more HP. EGR must be closed.
2. 850mg/stroke are for older TDI (90 & 110 hp) with injection pump. Newer TDI PD engines 115hp -> pull more air then 850mg/stroke.

So it is very simple then, I just change the values lower then 850 to 850?

For MSA15 or EDC15 Yes. For EDC16 No.

You can try to change the lower values to the max value, but when you start the car you will have EGR DTC. Try and report.
EDC16 must be tricked to keep the EGR closed.

I have EDC16c31.
I have raised the MAF tables so that they all read 1500mg.
I have also dropped the control duty cycle to 15% as per the upper rpm

Target MAF reades 1200mg which appears to be a limit even when it switches to open loop mode.
Control duty reads 19-20% constant in feedback mode and 5% in openloop.
No error reported.

When it switches duty fro 20-5% and back there is no delay or lag.
Its just an instant change like a switch from 20-5 or 5-20% duty.

I will Stick it on an OBDII reader today.
See if there is a difference between HDS control duty, and OBDII requested EGR% and EGR error%.

And where can I find the controlbits for this ECU?
