BMW 530d E39 193hp

Postby xsashox » Fri Dec 27, 2013 2:24 am

Hi guys...

As i pointed out in my introduction, im a little bit new to this forum and the whole ECU section of my car, especially the part where i can mess with my ECU.

It's my fourth E39 by now with a E60 545i in the middle but as my workhorse the E39 has just grown to my heart thats the main reason for the quantity :) So, i can easily say that i know really much about the car, i've been solving my own problems for quite some time, especially since i work with the computer and customers and it's kind of relaxing for me to spend time with screws, oil and stuff over the weekend on my car :)

A few questions i will point out here i will try to answer it on my own but please correct me if im wrong after all im here to learn;

- I have been recoding my modules (and updating) via INPA, DIS, WinKFP, and NCS. Will i be able to use my own cable?
I have a K+DCAN cable which im using to perform this stuff on my car (and some others) but i guess this will do?

- What software should i use? I've found some stock maps of E39's on the internet, and i was playing aroung with WinOLS, is that enough? I have an M57D30 engine which uses Bosch DDE 4.0 (EDC15 C4 right?)
If i got it right, WinOLS is just a tool to correct the maps that i download (read) from my car? Im a little bit confused with "Hardware" section of the WinOLS, is this software also able to read and write to my ECU? Should i think about MPPS? I have read over this forum that clones work also for EDC15, would you recommend that i use MPPS with my cable?

- EGR Delete
Ok i know very little regarding this stuff, since i have an option with BMW software to regulate this also (not remove it) im thinking that DDE is somehow monitoring the EGR valve air input + LMM and correcting the IQ according to the air coming in right? How am i able to remove this with my DDE?

- Changing maps
Ok, so the main topic. If im right i will have to change these maps right?
- Drivers Wish Map (for my smile :) )
- IQ Limit
- Torque limiting map
- SOI
- Turbo boost pressure map
- Boost limiting map
... anything else?

So let's be clear about my intentions.. I like breaking stuff and fixing it (i hope not my ECU lol) but i dont wish to melt the pistons.. I'm hoping for 20-25hP at best and i just love the torque that this stinky black smoking car is producing, so my main wish is torque (not too much dough since its an auto box :) ).

Im planing to install this summer an E60 530d turbo (a better garret) together with the E60 exhaust manifold (maybe intercooler also) that is a better spooling turbo. Maybe a straight pipe also from there...

Lets talk little bit about fuel economy - thats not the best side of this car in the city, neither am i hoping to drive on 6l. With adjusting the maps i will probably be adding IQ, boost and drivers wish to the torque range of the engine which means pretty much with relaxed driving my fuel economy will probably stay the same right? With the new turbo and stuff im hoping for lets say 240-250hP / 520-530nM. I could also spend some money for 535d injectors but i think i wont be needing it :)

Ive looked for some topics here regards this car and engine and picked some info along the way but i think when im also starting to see files i will have some more idea what we are talking about :)

Thank you guys for all the help! Its terrible to learn numbers and put them to work in your car lol :)

If someone needs some mechanical help with the E39 or some other BMW's i will be glad to help of course.. Or maybe webasto heater unlocking, recoding etc..

You can achieve 245hp with original parts.

BMW DDE4 can safely be read and written with KWP2000.

E60 535D injectors can not be used on this engine. They are piezo injectors.

The fuel economy in the city will always be big because this is heavy car with 6 cylinder engine. Also automatic gearbox ups the fuel usage.

@RPM Freak thank you for you answer. I know it can be achieved with original parts, but i get bored if i have nothing to do on the car  I'm maybe special but my car and tools are kind of my relaxation from every day life, job and problems

I've read that the E60 Garret turbo has better spool and the English drivers are installing theese turbo's commonly on E39 since they get more torque and better fuel economy. I'm relating to the vacum controled E60 turbos that were installed in the first series of the cars..

Just to be clear.. Im not hoping to reduce my fuel economy, if i wanted that i would have bought 520d, im just hoping that i can raise some cruising speed with the same fuel economy :) I've made about 24.000km in the last 4-5months and my average on motorway's was about 7.3l @ 140km/h. Nothing big. City driving burns 10l with no special agression on the pedal.. Im used to it..

KWP2000 it is. Thanks! ( Maybe any advices where to get a good one? PM me please if you know )

Maybe any advices on EGR delete also?

@avtodiagnostic yeah i know, the M57 engine has a really big potential and it puts out loads of torque which i just love  thank you for the reply :) even the serial car is a E46M killer almost so it's also fun  as the americans say, there is no replacement for displacement :)

Hey if youre interested, im currently making my 2Way comm GSM device for activating my Webasto heater through my phone and my car alarm system + car can respond back :)
