ecu inputs/outputs and remaps...

Postby yorkierm » Sun Feb 02, 2014 2:22 am

ok so I am a complete newbie! sorry :D

I have very little idea on the little silver box of tricks. but I am a competent diy mechanic.

so here for some questions...

I own an Alfa 159 with the 2.4jtdm which is a single turbo engine, the turbo is vacuum controlled, and the ecu has the 1 output/input for the boost control side of life...

what I want to know is...

is it possible to add another input to the ecu while doing a remap so that I could twin turbo the car? been looking at the bmw 3.0l twin turbo arrangement and having little ideas of a twin turbo modification...all the mechanical work is easy...but can I set my current ecu to take readings from 2 turbos, or would it be a non starter?

cheers all far more educated people. I hope this makes sense :D

Same as like I told you on tdocuk ;)
if your ecu uses 1 output for boost control, the N75 valve, which controls the vacuum directed to the actuator, you might be able to remap the egr maps, to control the vacuum of the second turbo, if this is also vacuum actuated...
but come to think of it, is this turbo even vacuum controlled, as I know some alfa's use a pressure controlled actuator for the vgt mechanism...

...and most alfas use electric EGR actuators..

Besides the question.. Why would you want to add a second turbo? You can squeeze alot of power from the original one. With a good remap there is a lot of power to be brought out from the engine, probably that much that your injectors wont handle the pressure before there is a need of a second turbo :)

sorry mate I am not attempting to find overrule of what you have already said..simply trying to explore different options as when I get an idea in my head I am hard swayed from it...

as for why I want 2 turbos...well what originally started out as an attempt to squeeze a bit more from my engine without being a total bank breaker has now more become a what if project. I have all the skills to fabricate and manufacture any manifolds etc...the remap would have to be done obviously...but currently this is all hypothetical and wondering. I know that the Toyota supra uses a completely mechanical bypass system for its sequential turbo...
