Difference between e39 e60 530d engines

Postby rex2005 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 2:18 am

Is there any difference on the engine 530d e39 and e60?

im thinking on to put e60 engine in my e39 without change the dde does it works?
old engine is kind off out off buisness soon and iv got an e60 engine waiting with new hx35 turbo and new performence clutch.
An big intercooler is mounted in the front and now i just need a better map thats can handle the hx35 turbo and e60 engine
i still going to use the old EDC15 e39 530D DDE just change the software for real power
DPF is removed and i doo want it to turbo bark or how its called in english.

My goal is to make 400-500Hp Diesel power

Is there some one here in this forum thats can make my wish go trugt?
I will ofcurse pay for good work if some one can take care of the tuning

Quick Check list
1 e39 530d manual DDE
2 e60 530d engine
3 EGR off (may be open when release gas pedall of it will make turbo bark)
4 Big intercooler
5 Holset HX35 Turbo with costom exhaustmanifoild
6 DPF removed Stright pipe
7 Costom clutch 1200nm confirmed and 5speed ZF manual gearbox
8 400-500HP is the goal

Hi

Not going to be easy.

M57 uses first generation Bosch CR system. Max pressure 1350bar, CP1 high pressure pump.
M57N uses second generation system from Bosch. Max pressure 1600bar, Cp3 high pressure pump.

These systems are working completely different way..

E60 has 2 types of engines.
1 is the older version that has 218hp, NO DPF, old style CR2 injectors and vacuum controlled turbo.
2 is the newer version that has 231hp, DPF, new style piezo injectors and electrically controlled turbo.
The two types of engines original have max rail pressure of 1600 bar that can be pushed up to 1700+ depending on HP that is needed.

The 1 type of engine can be tuned up to 300hp with all original parts. Above that the turbo cant produce boost and pull air in to the engine. The injectors are slow and they cant cope with the demand of fuel. The car will start to smoke.
The 2 type of engine can be tuned up to 325hp with original parts. Above that the turbo cant produce boost and pull air in to the engine. The injectors are faster and they can handle the fuel demand. DPF must be removed for the engine to make this power.

The E60 535D twin turbo engine with 286hp has original boost of 1.8 bars.

To make 400+ HP on this engine is you will need turbo that can make at least 2 bars off boost and will pull more then 1500 mg/stroke of air all the time true the RPM range, injection pump that can make around 2000 bars and upgraded injectors that can deliver the fuel that is needed for that hp.

With 300hp tune the engine is making 650Nm of torque. That is 50Nm more then the factory rating of the gearbox.

RPM Freak thats Good to know There it people's that's know about it.

I have e60 530d 2003 engine that's first generation of e60 218hp so that's you say I can't go over 300hp? No way at all?

I have fixed new clutch that should make it Tilton 3 plates

The turbo will be upgraded to hx 40 or may bigger if Its needed all i need to know if you may can make me an program that's gives me more than 300hp and if it's smokes I will take it same with gearbox if it crash that's next problem I want to land as near as possible to 500 without crack any pistons and I will pay for the tuning file with PayPal or any thing else that's work world wide

Yes you can pass 300 hp with that engine and bigger turbo, but you must rev the engine up to 5000 RPM. This power can be used in quick accelerations and i do not recommend to be used daily. The stress on the internal parts is to big and that stress can result in internal engine damage.

You problem will be the ECU. You like to run the new engine that is controlled with DDE6 on DDE4 ECU. My advice to you is to first try to start the engine and then think about HP upgrade.

In my Eyes its same Engine only difference i can see is airinte with swirl flaps and thats been swapped with old airintake without them. Looks same with injectors and pump other numbers on those may bigger smaller dont know but seems to be same whole Engine M57D30 and M57D30 it says on both Engines?

The engines are almost identical except the part that i wrote in previous post.
The 1 engine is M57TUD30
The 2 engine is M57TU2D30

The TU in the engine codes means that this engines are updates of the original M57D30 (184 & 193hp) that came in E39 & E53.

TU2 means that this engine is update of the first update of the original engine. So they are not exactly the same engines.

If you replace the older engine with a never one with piezoinjectors it won't start with old ECU
Searh for piezoinjectors on youtube and you'll find some good explenations

Why wouldnt you tune the E39 engine? I know for a fact that it cant go up to 405hP (not with stock parts of course).
