What car would be a good start

Considering buying an old car to start ECU tuning. Can anybody recommend a good starting point for a newbie? Really don't want to brick my first ECU!

bricking an ECU doesn`t have to be that frightful if you stay with us, anyway - first try to find a car that will be "engine-healthy", and other things will come along for sure

I suggest Opel EDC15M ECU's. X20DTL or Y20DTH. These ECU's let to repeat writting even if you failed previous write. Also maps are not hard to find there.
Also I suggest to develope some soldering skills with MSA15 ECU's - it will help you to recover EDC15 ECU's after failed write ;)

I'm also new to chip tuning, and luckily x20dtl is what I have. What software would you recommend to read/write with?

TurboDiesel engines are usally "easyer" to tune than petrol ones.

I think on these ECU's are 2x 27c010 chips, so need soldering job.
Abou topic -
I think the best ECU's to learn are VAG cars, MSA15 or EDC15P, easy to edit map on EDCSuite.
