2.0 hdi 16v porting

Postby nagliy_root » Mon Oct 29, 2012 12:58 am

Hello friends. My car is Peugeot 807 2.0 hdi 16v. I decided to repair my diesels injectors, but i can't to stop disassembling engine :D
Why 2.0 l 16v hdi engine produce so low power - only 107 ps? Because design of the inlet port and shapes are very bad. Peugeot petrol heads are made with much better quality. Transitions from inlet runners to the valve seats are very bad. So here are some photos.

o, little specs: swirl axis and flaps are removed, 3 angle seats, polished valves a lot of work to maximization airflow in intake. A lot of metal were removed from intake but configuration of intake ports were remained.

Lot of work!

May be this spiral bulge in the bowl is for promoting swirl and improving mixture quality?

I was thinking that the porting is more useful in petrol engines than in diesel engines, due to the higher rpm range of petrol engines.
But tell us the improved performance, please.

Really good job there. Be sure to let us know which kind of improvement you get out of this modification.
The head looked pretty neat and clean even before the "treatment", how many kilometers does the engine have?

Before make this job i looked to bmw and vw heads and there is no spiral bulge. Of course the intake runner configuration were spiral.
Before this job i thinking why PSA engines produce so little power only 107 ps in 16v head. BMW produse 140, 170 ps. After inspecting intake runners i sow very narrow intake runner - i think it produce very fast air speed but not much air for power at all. I decided to expand runners to increase air. It very interesting what this mod can give. May be i kill all headpower or may be i can get something good :). Head looks good - because i clean it and intake about 3 hours with Karcher and agressive chemicals - egr do it job :).

Engine has 250 000 km - but then i remove head i can see any deterioration - all looks good- i think that is new engine :) So hdi is very good engine - 300 000 - all looks new in cylinders.

The engines are very different, 320d E46 had a 150hp 2 liter engine since 2001. But that's a very different project, newer than the DW10ATED and with higher grade components, also more "extreme" (less reliable, turbo much more prone to breakage). Of course the HDi must be a relatively low price engine while in BMW they can affrd to build engines which are more expensive, which means better turbos, higher fuel pressure, better injectors....

Only today's 2000bar 2.0 liters push 170hp, not those of ten years ago!

And still the HDi doesn't love to eat swirl flaps as breakfast

Yes hdi don't eat flaps :)
I looked in general how bmw and vw design inlet in their heads. So i can see what i can do and what i can't. But driving with ported hdi head shows all mistakes. :)

But hdi heads designers are lazy. Seats and inlet runer zone are very bad, Seats shape is very bad, they serves in intake channel on 2 mm - so that is power loss in generally. I had worked with PSA XU10j4rs head - that is very good designed head, seats shapes are very good, but oem cams are very mild :) Frenches what else to say.... :D
