EDC15C7 EGR off, correct way to do it

Postby sanscorp » Tue Jan 06, 2015 11:24 am

I read a lot of different opinions and methodes.

The most "guides" or posts talk about setting the EGR switch to 0 and flatten out the EGR map to fully open.

On my Alfa Romeo 1.9 JTD 8v euro 3 I removed all the EGR hardware.
The valve is electronicly operated and now just disconnected.
The ECU shows a DTC (P0404) but no MIL, so I just kept on driving, when reading parameters with MES (multiecuscan) it shows the EGR at 1% (I think that's closed, right?) I can check it but I'd have to reconnect the EGR valve and somehow look under the bonnet whilst driving

To finish the job, I'm now attempting to learn how to recognize maps and how to edit them.
I have Winols Demo and have been reading a lot over the past few days.
I think I found my EGR map and I'm sure I found the switches (not hard to find).
I also think I know what all the switches do.

The ECU's HW number ends with 740 and SW number with 796.

I don't want everything on paper, until now I've found
A few questions:
- Is switching the first bit (001) to 0 and set the EGR map to 850 (highest value) enough?
Or is the fact that I removed the hardware the switch enough to make the DTC go away?
- Why use 850, doesn't the lowest value close the EGR thus making the ECU expect more Air Intake from the MAF?

I also removed my shutoff valve and saw there is a switch for this solenoid, can I just turn it off or is there also a map for this?
This hardware is also completely removed (incl. vacuum tubes and solenenoids).
the only thing still connected to the vacuum system is the brake servo and turbo VNT solenoid.

Had to leave and now my edit button expired :?

to finish the sentence:
I don't want everything on paper and chewed out, until now I've come this far and I hope to gradually learn more and more!
I'm in no hurry and expect to be busy for at least a year before I get a grasp of things.
Still, your help is very much obliged!

hello sanscorp,

i have just joined this forum and have read your question with interest!
do you yet have a solution to your problem?

the same task i would like to fix in my car's ECU.
it is a fiat doblo which has the EDC15C7 unit.

what hardware do you use to write / program the ECU?
i also have multiecuscan program, and a usb ODB 2 lead.
thinking about the setting of the EGR valve values, i also wonder whether to set all high or all low?

thank you,

Ozzy
