ECM is good for starters since it helps you modify a limited amount of maps of the ecu that the people of alien tech found, still you are limited on how "deep" you can go inside you ecu. Winols on the other hand shows all the data the ECU drops you just have find the maps and modify them.

The best tuning Software for beginners is definetly TunerPro. It is 4 free and supports users with many good definitions.

I am using Burn2 from Ostrich, for flashing my chips.
For those beginners tuning OBD2 cars, a KWP2000 flasher from ebay is the right tool. costs 30€

Sombody adviced Map3D? I think thats to expensive for a beginner.. (2700 £)
