Question regarding boost control

Postby DizelRox » Sat Jul 04, 2015 7:57 am

I'm totally new to car tuning and chip-tuning in particular.

Currently i am experiencing with my 08 Ford Connect 1.8 TDCI sid202

From my general knowledge in car mechanics as i understand the turbo pressure regulated by the wastegate actuator which contains a spring that is compressed by the pressure in the cold part of the turbine

So the question is how the ECU manages to control the boost if it is controlled mechanically?

i think all tdci turbo is controled by ecu not mechanic.

so why there is a wastegate vacuum actuator installed?

the wastegate are connected to a valve with 2 wires (N75) ? if yes the ecu controls turbo pressure using this valve. If no you have a "bad engine" and ecu has a turbo map based on "how that turbo will boost on acceleration".

Recent engines use turbos with electronic actuators.

I have a "bad" engine probably :P
I have a vacuum line connected from the turbo cold part to the wastegate actuator.
Probably i will have to buy a boost controller
