ECU DRIVER SELECTING

Postby 5h1ll » Thu Jan 21, 2016 6:35 pm

I have galletto v54 and I am wanting to load a map from a BMW E60 520d EDC16C35.
In the selection for driver, there is only BMW 3 series 2.0/3.0 EDC16C35 or 5 series 3.0d EDC16C35
Obviously this vehicle is a 2.0d but 5 series....if I am to select driver for 5 series 3.0d EDC16C35 k-line, will the ecu be read correctly, and also during write of file, will it write correctly and will checksum be correct?
On driver list looks as follows

Serie 5(E60/E61) 2.0l D Bosch EDC 15 R/W -- Flasher
Serie 5(E60/E61) 2.5/3.0l D Bosch DDE 4.0 R/W -- Flasher
Serie 5(E60/E61) 2.5/3.0l Bosch EDC 16C31 R/W Yes Flasher
Serie 5(E60/E61) 3.0l Bosch EDC 16C35 R/W Yes Flasher
Serie 5(E60/E61) 2.0/3.0l Bosch EDC 17CP02/C06 R/W Yes Flasher

There is no option EDC16C35 for E60......is this because the driver does not exist, or simply because they have the correct driver just listed under 3.0d

please help....I wish to surprise my friend who is visiting tomorrow with this new map and scare him with added power

It's readable/writable under the 3.0d driver. Technically the bmw x25d motots are 3.0 diesel software reduced power from "normal" 3.0d motor. I have done this ecu via obd but its a risky. Do it via bdm as advice from me.

If I read via obd and the file is full 2mb, then I write it should be ok as long as the v54 matches software and hardware number?
Also if there is a problem with the write and brick the ecu, can this file read through obd be sent through BDM door and revive the ecu, or does full flash from BDM only write back to ecu and revive it?

Only full Bdm read can "unbrick" the Ecu
As i told you i have done a couple of bmw like this via obd, no problem reading/writing but its risky to brick the ecu.Edc 16c35 always are risky for obd read.
Best regards

Thank you for your help. If I have issue writing through obd and write fails, can I read bdm after or is data lost?

No, if obd read/write fails you can't do BDM. So you will have to take to the longer path.
