MSA15.7: Beginner's problems & How to get started!

Postby anone » Thu Mar 31, 2016 3:52 pm

Hello!

I have an Volvo 945 -93, to which I swapped engine & engine management from -98 S70 TDI. Engine is basically VAG's "AEL" from old Audi A6, but engine management system in Volvo is MSA15.7, when Audi has MSA12 or sth.

I'd like to have some power and learn about ECU programming, so I de-soldered eeproms from ECU, and read those to my laptop with TL866A prommer. I have WinOLS 2.24, and I have previously done little exercise finding maps with some .bin I found from the internet.

Problem is that I cannot find any maps from the files I read from my original eeproms!

In first place, I don't know which one is LLL and which one is HHH. In here:

http://s795.photobucket.com/user/k0mpresd/media/11894517_10206256188776888_1359413469467466083_o.jpg.html

It seems the inner one is LLL and outer one is HHH (altough ECU in this picture seems like more MSA15.5). How can I recognize LLL and HHH? I just named files as "inner" and "outer".

So when I read eeproms to my laptop, I have two different .bins. Found this text from WinOLS homepage:

In old TDIs with DIL eproms there are two processors, which have each one eprom connected. These eproms must be imported into two separate WinOLS projects and not both together into one project using "16 bit in two 8 bit eproms".
https://www.evc.de/en/service/q1300.asp

How I need to do with this? My eeproms are PLCC32, not DIL, but no matter how I import them to WinOLS, I still cannot find any maps. I did find easilly about twenty maps from .bin file I found from the internet, but not from my own bins...

So I am clearly doing something wrong here. Please tell me what. 8-)

TL;DR: Why can't I find maps from INNER and OUTER bins (attached, read from eeproms by me) but I do find them from bin (attached) I downloaded from internet?

Well try to import as two binary files, LLL and HHH. Then from two 8bit EPROMs you get 16bit file. Dont forget to switch your wiev in winOLS to 16bit or you wont see much. If you are not sure which is which, try importing it other way around. I think it will work, that two 8bit EPROMs found on MSA11-12 are different thing. Ive been doing MSA25 in Mercedes prechamber engines 1994-2002 and it was exactly like this. Two PLL32 EPROMs for one 16bit file. Also pray to your god that I am right and its 16bit file which has mostly only decimal factors, you dont want to fight old 8bit file where factor is complete random number.

It seemed that I did everything right!

Altough, this S70 ecu was my guinea pig, it got wrecked when I de-soldered eeproms. I have a new 850 TDI ecu, and now I know how to get started with maps. I try not to be so violent with de-soldering this time.

Let's see in next month how 850 ecu programming goes...
