ECU cross-referencing

Postby lengine » Wed Jan 09, 2013 11:26 pm

Hi Guys,
There goes my first question...
I have manage to get quite a lot of info about specific ECUs, but I am finding it difficult to cross reference all this information and was wandering if someone can help. I have two ECUs that I got from the scrappy, they are both from VW Passats and this is the info I have:
- Vehicle make and model
- Vehicle Serial number (long number on windscreen)
- Year of manufacture
- engine
- ECU part number both Bosch and VW

The ECU Bosch part number is 0261206317, based on this how do I get the ECU type i.e ME7.X and what is the relevance of the type of ECU? does the same family of Bosch ECUs share some commonality in the SW loaded?
From the sticker on the ECU can you get any info on the software loaded or is this info somewhere else?
VW use a three letter engine type code, does that determine SW for the ECU? where can I find info about this?

Sorry about all this questions but I think I am suffering from information overload, and need to simplify. I am looking at VW ECUs to start with hence the questions being related to it.
Best Regards
Luis

Are you simple tray to ask Google about "Bosch 0261206317"?
More info about 0261206317 search in Bosch ESI.

Hi,
Tried that and I get a lot of info but not quite what I am looking for. What I am really after is if the numbers in the ECU sticker gives you any other type of information that is useful. I found on google the type of ECU that it is but, is there anything on the ECU sticker that identifies the type or software on it?
I looked up "Bosch ESI" and I found a paying? software from Bosch, is that what you refer to?

thanks
Luis

Yes. This paying and lot of Gigabytes. But only this soft give full information about Bosch products. You can find ESI on torrent. For non-commercial time to time use its price is crazy.

As far as i know, Magic Motorsport has a free service on the MMS helpdesk that does exactly this. And trust me its useful ASF. :D
Simply type in the part number and it gives you the control unit type e.g EDC16C7 or whatever, and also it gives you part numbers that could alternatively be used, in case you need to find a second hand or new control unit for cloning and such.

I for one used it under a test period and loved it. And i want to get my hand on that thing. :D
I think that another company has the same but the name just slips my mind right now.
