ECU Remap and Servicing/Warranty

Postby jjookk » Sat Jul 08, 2017 2:18 am

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on ECU remapping a brand new Mercedes A160 W176 engine. I am aware that remapping would put my warranty at risk if they detected it if something were to go wrong with the engine etc., but I was curious to see if there were any ways around it.

I know that re-flashing the ECU with the factory settings would still cause the remap to be detectable by the dealer as there may be signs of over-boosting and over-revving etc., but I wanted to know what would happen if I were to re-flash the ECU back to factory settings and then reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery (although I have seen many variations of this). Would resetting the ECU like this erase all the previous history caused by the remap (such as the over-boosting) and so make it less likely for the remap to be detected? I'm aware that the car would have to readjust to the sensors and all that after the reset, but I wanted to know whether restoring to the factory ECU settings maybe a week before or so before the car is due for a service and then resetting the ECU would allow the remap to essentially be undetectable?

Thanks,

Jay
