Hardware and Software numbers

Hi

I'm still learning the basics of ECU tuning so this may be a stupid question!

How important are the hardware and software numbers? I've heard different information, some say they don't really matter, others say that the numbers in a file must match those of the file already on the car, so which is it?

Hi
Your car won't work "well" without the correct software version of the car, so that's the most important question.
What you can have is a different ecu, example, a PD150 ecu will work on a PD130 engine only if the software inside is the correct for that engine.

So I am assuming the below wont work "Well", what kind of issues would be encountered, or is that a kind of "how long is a piece of string" type question?

Issues like wrong kind of injectors and durations, turbo and turbo boost may differ...
To work properly you need to copy the content of your ecu to the new one. In what ecu are we talking about?

The vehicle in question is a Peugeot 807 2.2 HDi, ECU is EDC15

The modified file is also from an 807 2.2 HDi with EDC15 ecu

In that case it should be fine! The different SW and HW number may be from fabrication year or something!
In any case you must copy the immo info, otherwise it will not start.
